Java VPS prices

Seven sizes by memory, two service levels, one monthly price. Subscribe with PayPal and cancel any time.

Plans

Size is memory, because the JVM heap decides how much your application can hold. Choose a size, then choose who looks after the server. All prices are in EUR per month.

  • JVM heap
  • Database buffers
  • Operating system, metaspace and file cache

Bars show the default split of RAM when a database runs on the same server. Without a database the JVM heap gets 60% of RAM. Bar lengths are to scale.

What is included

Every plan is a separate server with its own resources. Nobody else shares your memory or CPU.

Self-managed

You get root access

  • Root SSH access to your own server
  • Ubuntu LTS with OpenJDK 8, 11, 17 or 21
  • Tomcat, Spring Boot, WildFly, Payara or Docker, installed and configured
  • Nginx reverse proxy with free Let's Encrypt SSL
  • Firewall, fail2ban and automatic security updates
  • MySQL, MariaDB or PostgreSQL on the same server, if you want one
  • A deploy command for new versions of your application
  • Email support for the initial setup

Managed

We run it for you

  • Everything in Self-managed
  • We apply OS, JDK and application server updates
  • JVM memory and garbage collection tuning for your application
  • Daily offsite backups: 7 daily, 4 weekly and 6 monthly copies
  • Monitoring of uptime, memory, CPU and disk, with alerts
  • Help migrating one existing application
  • Priority email support

Runs what you build

Tell us what you run when you subscribe. We install and configure it before we hand over the server.

Apache Tomcat (WAR, JSP)
WAR and JSP applications behind Nginx.
Spring Boot, Quarkus or Micronaut (JAR)
A runnable JAR as a system service, updated with one deploy command.
WildFly (Jakarta EE)
Full Jakarta EE with EJB, JMS and CDI. Latest release.
Payara Server (Jakarta EE)
Payara 7 for Jakarta EE 11, or Payara 6.
Docker (your own image)
Bring a container image. It runs with Docker Compose.

MySQL, MariaDB or PostgreSQL runs on the same server and listens only locally. A daily dump is kept on the server. See Java hosting with a database.

Billing and ordering

How does billing work?

You subscribe through PayPal and are charged every month. You can cancel at any time from your PayPal account. There are no setup fees.

What currency are the prices in?

Euros. PayPal converts the payment if your PayPal balance is in another currency.

When do I get my server?

After PayPal confirms your subscription we set up the server and email you the access details. Contact us if you have not heard from us within one working day.

Which size should I choose?

Start from your JVM heap. The heap is about 45% of RAM when a database runs on the same server and about 60% without one. Business (8 GB) is the recommended size for a production application with its database. See how much RAM a Java app needs.

Can I run WildFly or Payara on the Start plan?

Jakarta EE servers use more memory than Tomcat. WildFly alone takes roughly 500 to 700 MB before your application loads. Start works for light use. We recommend Business or larger for production.

Can I change plans later?

Yes. Contact us. A new size is a new PayPal subscription and we move your data to the new server.

What happens if a payment fails?

PayPal retries the payment. After repeated failures PayPal suspends the subscription and we may suspend the server.

Is there a free trial?

No. See the Refund Policy for what happens if the service does not work for you in the first days.

Monthly subscription. Cancel any time in your PayPal account.
