What is Java VPS hosting?
A virtual private server prepared for Java: your own Linux, a JDK, an application server such as Tomcat or Spring Boot, Nginx with SSL and optionally a database. Nothing is shared with other customers. See Java VPS hosting.
How much memory do I need?
The JVM heap should be about 45% of RAM when a database runs on the same server, and about 60% without one. A small API runs in 2 GB. A production application with its database is comfortable on 8 GB. Read how much RAM a Java app needs.
What is the difference between Self-managed and Managed?
Self-managed gives you root access and a server we set up once. Managed adds updates, offsite backups, monitoring, JVM tuning and migration help. See Managed Java hosting.
Can I change plans later?
Yes. Contact us. A new size is a new PayPal subscription and we move your data to the new server.
Software
Which Java application servers do you support?
Apache Tomcat, WildFly, Payara, Spring Boot, Quarkus and Micronaut JARs, and any Docker image. Each has its own page: Tomcat, Spring Boot, WildFly, Payara, Docker.
Which Java versions can I use?
OpenJDK 8, 11, 17 and 21. See Java LTS versions.
Do you support GlassFish or JBoss?
We run Payara, which is the maintained distribution of GlassFish, and WildFly, the community server that JBoss AS became. Most applications move over with little work.
Can I install a database?
Yes. MySQL, MariaDB or PostgreSQL on the same server, listening only locally, with a nightly dump. See Java hosting with a database.
Is there a control panel?
No. You manage the server over SSH. This leaves all the memory to your application. Managed plans mean you do not need to.
Which operating system do you use?
Ubuntu LTS.
Billing and setup
How does billing work?
You subscribe through PayPal and are charged every month. You can cancel at any time in your PayPal account. There are no setup fees.
How long until I get my server?
After PayPal confirms the subscription we build the server and email you the access details. Contact us if you have not heard from us within one working day.
What happens if a payment fails?
PayPal retries the payment. After repeated failures PayPal suspends the subscription and we may suspend the server.
How do I cancel?
In your PayPal account, under automatic payments. Cancelling stops future charges and the server stays active until the end of the paid period.
Do you offer a free trial or money-back guarantee?
No free trial. The first payment can be refunded within 7 days. See the Refund Policy.
Which currency do you charge in?
Euros. PayPal converts the payment if your account uses another currency.
Migrating and support
Can you move my application from another host?
Managed plans include help migrating one application. On Self-managed you move it yourself with the deploy command. See moving a Java app from cPanel to a VPS.
How do I deploy a new version?
Upload your WAR or JAR and run sudo deploy-app with the file. The previous version is kept for rollback.
